The Worst Type of Patriotism

To be honest, I never thought that I would have heard that phrase before. For someone to be the worse type of patriot. I always thought that patriots are people that love this country, and there can never be anything wrong with loving ones country... right?

Wrong. There is such a thing as being a bad patriot. Now I'm not saying that these people don't love their country, because to be honest, I think that almost everyone in this country loves America, it's ideals, it's freedoms, it's promises, and its hope. In this way, almost everyone in this country is a patriot (although there are always exceptions to any rule). Unfortunately some of these people, who I actually believe love their country very much, have extremely warped and convoluted ideas. These people believe that if you do not line exactly with their views, you are anti-American. In fact, this is extremely apparent in this year's election when even members of the House of Representatives have called for investigations on, "whether or not some of the people in Congress are anti-American" from Representative Michelle Bachman of Minnesota. This I believe, is wrong. All people who vote, who serve this country, who voice their opinions, on any part of the political spectrum truly love this country. But anyone who says that someone else does not love this country because of their political view is dead wrong. In fact, this is an issue that McCain, Palin, Obama, and Biden have all addressed, that we may have differing opinions on what we should do for this country, but we all love this country.
